Biography
Aya Gamil (b. 1996, Cairo, Egypt) is a visual artist. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from Helwan University and completed her Pre-Master’s coursework in the Painting Department in 2020.
Working primarily through painting and material experimentation, Gamil’s practice centers on the human body as a shifting site of experience, shaped by memory, lived experience, and cultural and spiritual contexts. Her figurative works bring the body into dialogue with plants, organic forms, landscapes, and imagined environments. Figures are often submerged, transformed, and entangled with their surroundings, reflecting an ongoing negotiation between the body, its environment, and the forces that shape its perception.
Her practice engages with the tension between creative freedom and inherited cultural ideas surrounding the body, visibility, and selfhood. Through processes of layering, merging, and transformation, Gamil approaches painting as a space for processing these tensions and examining the relationship between individual experience and broader cultural and spiritual frameworks.
Gamil has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Egypt and internationally, including Gallery Misr in Cairo and Gallery 1957 in London.
In 2026, she participated in the Al Maqam Artist Residence in Marrakech, Morocco.

آية جميل (مواليد 1996، القاهرة، مصر)
 فنانة بصرية ورسامة مصرية. حصلت على درجة البكالوريوس في الفنون الجميلة من جامعة حلوان، وأتمّت دراسة مقررات ما قبل الماجستير في قسم التصوير عام 2020.
تعمل جميل بشكل أساسي من خلال الرسم والتجريب بالخامات، وترتكز ممارستها على الجسد الإنساني بوصفه مساحة متحولة للتجربة، تتشكل من خلال الذاكرة والتجربة المعاشة والسياقات الثقافية والروحية. وتضع أعمالها التصويرية الجسد في حوار مع النباتات والعناصر العضوية والمناظر الطبيعية والبيئات المتخيلة. وغالبًا ما تظهر الأجساد غارقة أو متحولة أو متشابكة مع محيطها، في انعكاس لعلاقة مستمرة بين الجسد وبيئته والقوى التي تشكل الطريقة التي يُدرَك بها.
تتناول ممارستها التوتر بين الحرية الإبداعية والأفكار الثقافية الموروثة المرتبطة بالجسد والظهور والذات. ومن خلال عمليات التراكم والطبقات والاندماج والتحول، تتعامل جميل مع الرسم بوصفه مساحة تتقاطع فيها ههذه التوترات وتتشكل من خلالها العلاقة بين التجربة الفردية والأطر الثقافية والروحية الأوسع.
شاركت جميل في معارض فردية وجماعية داخل مصر وعلى المستوى الدولي، من بينها
Gallery Misr في القاهرة Gallery 1957 في لندن.
وفي عام 2026، شاركت في إقامة
Al Maqam Artist Residence
في مراكش، المغرب.
